30 Years Ago: Back To The Future
Hard to believe it was 30 years ago when Back To The Future hit the screen, taking the world by storm and becoming the highest grossing film of the year. Today, it’s one of the most beloved films from that generation.
A couple of months ago, the fine folks at Malka Media Group rang and asked if they could visit the stages where some of the film was shot. We, of course, said yes, and the East Coast filmmakers flew in to see the studio where ILM added futuristic magic to the blockbuster and interview some of the artists involved in the production.
Our Model Shop Supervisor Sean House toured them around 32TEN, telling them about the facility’s legacy and showing them where parts of the movies were filmed.
Then, Mike Smith, who was the pyro-technician on Back To The Future Part III, stopped by the Model Shop and described some of the shots. Next they moved into the legendary C Theater to interview actor Jeffrey Weissman who played George McFly in Back To The Future Parts II and III.
After leaving Marin County, the MMG team drove down to Los Gatos to ride a Hendo Hoverboard, giving them the full Marty McFly experience.
